ACEA petrol engines

Motor oils of the ACEA System have the following features:

A1/B1: low viscosity, low friction, (HTHSV 2.9-3.5 mPa.s)

A3/B3: High performance engines, extended oil change intervals, for year-round use, extreme operating conditions

A3/B4: See A3/B3, plus diesel direct injection

A5/B5: Special high-performance engines, longest oil change intervals, viscosity requirement A1/B1, quality requirement A3/B3

C1: High-performance engines, longest oil change intervals,
quality level A5/B5, viscosity drop
HTHS > 2.9 mPa.s, low SAPS (max. 05%)

C2: High-performance engines, longest oil change intervals,
quality level A5/B5, lowered HTHS  > 2.9 mPa.s,
mid-SAPS (max. 0.8%)

C3: High-performance engines, longest oil change intervals,
quality level A3/B4, HTHS > 3.5 mPa.s
mid-SAPS (max. 0.8%)

Additives

OMV has developed several additives, some of which coat the metal surfaces and therefore protect them. Others neutralize acids, which are produced in the combustion process and can cause corrosion.

> TOP

All-round service

Besides lubricants for transportation and industry, OMV also offers bitumen, heating fuel, fuels, ad-blues and fuel cards.

> TOP

Catalytic converter

There are three different types:
Three-way-catalytic converter
Diesel-oxidation-catalytic converter
NOx catalytic converter and SCR (selective catalytic reduction)

> TOP

Change intervals

Manufacturers determine the intervals for oil changes based on the ageing, absorption rate of contaminants and other parameters. Compliance with the manufacturer’s regulations decreases life service costs (repair, fuel, decrease of value) by three quarters.

> TOP

Demand

OMV has developed passenger car motor oils, which can last for 10,000, 15,000 or even 50,000 kilometers before needing to be changed.

> TOP

Function of motor oils

Motor oil must fulfill 5 tasks:

*Lubrication
*Cooling
*Cleaning
*Protect from corrosion
*Seal

> TOP

Hydro crack oils

HC oils have a better cold reaction (pour point under -30°C) and a significantly increased viscosity index, as well as a range of other, improved features (deterioration, evaporation point, wear behavior, solvency, etc.)

> TOP

Light Oil

In comparison to “rgular“ motor oils, light oils must have the following three features: Save fuel, enable easy start-up in cold temperatures, and guarantee the fast lubrication of all aggregates.

> TOP

Motor oil requirements

With new engine technologies, the demands to motor oil also increase:
-    resistance to higher temperatures
-    longer service life for longer oil change intervals
-    lower viscosity for lower fuel consumption
-    lower evaporization for lower oil consumption
-    lower ash content for longer CAT service life

> TOP

Multi-Grade motor oil

In different temperatures, these oils do not change their viscosity as much as single-grade motor oils. Therefore, it is possible to use the same oil during the summer and the winter, and also significantly eases engine start-up.

> TOP

OMV

OMV is Austria’s largest industrial company listed on the stock market and also one of Central Europe’s leaders in the crude oil and natural gas sector.
With 5,226 employees, OMV is active in the following 3 areas: Refining & marketing, exploration & production, gas.

OMV BIXXOL

OMV BIXXOL motor oils for passenger cars:
The series of OMV’s new motor oils meets or exceeds the increased demands for performance and is suitable for the utilization with increased demands of high-pressure direct injection engines (e.g. PDTD), extended oil change intervals (up to 50,000 km) and even more strict environmental regulations.

> TOP

Partially synthetic motor oil

Motor oil consisting of mineral base oil, synthetic base oil and additives. Usually 10W-40.

> TOP

Polyalphaolefine

PAO’s (Polyalphaolefine)  are processed using a multi-level synthesis process. The show an even better resistance to cold temperatures than HC oil (pour point 60°C), but have no special advantages over HC oils in regards to their other features. For manufacturing, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is used, which converts carbon dioxide and hydrogen, so-called synthesis gas, into hydrocarbons.

> TOP

SAE viscosity grades

SAE viscosity grades were developed to ease the consumer’s selection of the correct oil.

> TOP

Single-grade motor oil

Is motor oil, which fulfills the requirements of only one viscosity grade according to SAE. E.g. SAE 10W or SAE 30. Today, this is rarely used.

> TOP

Standardized systems

International standardized systems for motor and drive oils:

API: American Petroleum Institute
ACEA: Association des Constructeurs
Europeens d´Automobiles
SAE: Society of Automotive Engineers

> TOP

Synthetic oil

Synthetic oil is manufactured to increase lubrication ability.

> TOP

Viscosity

Viscosity is a measurement value for the semi-fluid condition of oil.
